Alen Simonyan Sends Positive Signals to Azerbaijan Over Peace Treaty
On November 28, Alen Simonyan, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, stated that the time will come when Armenians and Azerbaijanis must live next to each other. "We hope for this and will do everything for it. Armenians and Azerbaijanis should trade, I do not exclude that some people will return to their homes in Azerbaijan, I do not exclude that after some time, Azerbaijanis will come here and settle," he added.
When asked whether such a clause is included in the peace treaty, Simonyan replied that he had not noticed such a clause: "The peace treaty is entirely based on international principles – territorial integrity, opening of communications, etc."
Moreover, the Armenian official stated that the peace treaty could be concluded within the next 15 days. According to him, this is possible if Azerbaijan shows political will. "I can say that we have reached an agreement on almost all fundamental issues. I do not want to disclose the details so as not to harm the process," Alen Simonyan noted.
Moreover, he stated that the Karabakh issue no longer exists, and Yerevan supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. "What does it mean? Is the Karabakh issue resolved? What constitutes the resolution or non-resolution of the issue? The Republic of Armenia currently does not have such an issue. The Republic of Armenia fully supports Azerbaijan's territorial integrity, including Karabakh. We have said this repeatedly over the past year and a half," Alen Simonyan emphasized.
