Aliyev Meets EU Delegation Head To Discuss Azerbaijan-EU Cooperation
On October 16, Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, received the credentials of Marijana Kujundžić, the newly appointed Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, Aliyev fondly recalled his discussions with António Costa, the President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission, in Tirana and Copenhagen, noting that detailed talks had been held on the prospects for bilateral cooperation. Emphasizing the recent momentum in Azerbaijan-EU relations, the President highlighted that three EU Commissioners had visited Azerbaijan within the past year.
Marijana Kujundžić congratulated Azerbaijan on its progress in advancing the peace agenda with Armenia, referencing the presence of US President Donald Trump in Washington. She praised Azerbaijan’s active regional diplomacy, citing President Aliyev’s recent visits and participation in international summits as clear examples.
Kujundžić also noted favorable opportunities for further development of Azerbaijan-EU relations, particularly in the energy and transport sectors, and emphasized the EU’s support for projects aimed at creating regional transport connections. She announced that the European Union would continue supporting Azerbaijan’s demining operations. The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on the prospects for future cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
