Armenia and Azerbaijan Exchange Border Delimitation Drafts, Progress in Talks

On July 1, the Armenian and Azerbaijani governments reported that the commissions on the delimitation of the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan have exchanged projects on the regulations of joint work.
As of July 2, the commissions had exchanged drafts of these regulations and held several discussions in the working order. The negotiations are progressing constructively, and the coordination of these regulations is expected to be finalized shortly.
Notably, Yerevan and Baku recently announced a preliminary agreement regarding the definition of certain parts of the Gazakh-Tavush sector of their border. The agreement stipulated that the delineation process would adhere to the borderline between Azerbaijan and Armenia as it existed at the time of the Soviet Union's dissolution. However, residents of several Armenian border villages, particularly Kirants, have objected to this demarcation.
