Armenia and Iran Near Deal on Simplified Customs Corridor
Armenia and Iran are close to finalizing an agreement on a simplified customs corridor aimed at streamlining trade procedures and accelerating cargo flow between the two countries, State Revenue Committee (SRC) Chairman Eduard Hakobyan announced on October 24.
“Negotiations on signing a simplified customs corridor agreement between Armenia and Iran are in progress and are expected to conclude soon,” Hakobyan said at a press conference. The new arrangement will simplify customs clearance, enhance transparency, and reduce logistical delays along the Armenia–Iran border.
Hakobyan also highlighted ongoing talks with Georgia to deepen customs cooperation, noting that a joint checkpoint is being planned at the Gogavan–Guguti border crossing. “We have formed a working group to provide combined services at the Gogavan–Guguti section,” he said.
He added that cooperation with the United States has resumed “with significant momentum,” focusing on capacity development, procurement of modern customs equipment, and implementation of smart monitoring systems to strengthen border management and trade facilitation.
