Armenia and Lithuania Sign Strategic Partnership Agreement

Armenia and Lithuania elevated bilateral relations to a new level after Foreign Ministers Ararat Mirzoyan and Kęstutis Budrys signed a strategic partnership agreement in Yerevan on May 19.

Speaking at a joint press conference following their meeting, Mirzoyan described the agreement as an important milestone that would deepen political dialogue and broaden cooperation across multiple sectors.

“Bilateral visits, meeting each other, and holding detailed discussions in our capitals provide a special opportunity to advance our political dialogue and cooperation,” Mirzoyan said.

He noted that the agreement comes at a symbolic moment, marking the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Lithuania.

“This visit is taking place at a highly symbolic time - the 35th anniversary of the establishment of our diplomatic relations - and at this very moment, taking into account all previous developments, we were able to sign a document that elevated the level of our relations,” he added.

According to Mirzoyan, the two sides discussed not only bilateral issues but also developments in the South Caucasus and broader geopolitical challenges.

Particular attention was given to economic and technological cooperation. The Armenian foreign minister highlighted potential collaboration in information technology, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, noting Lithuania’s experience in these fields.

“We had the opportunity today to discuss the prospects for our economic cooperation, particularly in the fields of information technology, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity,” Mirzoyan said.

The Armenian FM also stressed that Lithuania has been among the countries actively supporting Armenia’s deepening ties with the European Union.

“We are grateful to our Lithuanian partners for the support they have provided in deepening Armenia-EU relations,” he stated.

During the press conference, Mirzoyan also praised the results of the inaugural Armenia-EU Summit held earlier this month in Yerevan, calling it highly productive.

“It is no secret that Armenia is moving closer and closer to the EU every day,” he said.

Mirzoyan emphasized that the process is being driven primarily by public demand inside Armenia.

“There are all the opportunities for this, and there is the number one prerequisite for it - the European aspirations of the Armenian people,” he noted, referring to the civic initiative that later became Armenia’s law on launching the EU accession process.

The Armenia-EU Summit took place on May 5 in Yerevan immediately following the 8th European Political Community Summit, reflecting Armenia’s increasingly active engagement with European institutions and partners.
