Armenia Climbs Positive Peace Index, Ranking Second in the Region

Armenia was ranked 54th among countries with a Positive Peace Index (PPI), according to a report published by the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP), an international analytical center.
According to the Positive Peace Report 2024, Armenia experienced a notable advancement in its Positive Peace Index score, marking a 9.2 percent increase since 2013. This achievement positions Armenia as the second-highest ranking country in the Russia and Eurasia region. Furthermore, all domains of Positive Peace demonstrated improvement within Armenia over the past decade.
All Pillars experienced significant enhancements, except for Good Relations with Neighbours, which saw a slight decline of 0.8 percent.
Key areas such as Free Flow of Information, Acceptance of the Rights of Others, and Low Levels of Corruption exhibited improvements exceeding 15 percent.
The most notable progress occurred in information access, with Armenia’s telecom infrastructure index indicator surging by 35.4 percent since 2013. This, alongside a 3.3 percent enhancement in the quality of information indicator, contributed to the overall advancement in the Free Flow of Information Pillar.
The ongoing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan concerning Nagorno-Karabakh led to 80 percent of Armenians evacuating the region. This conflict is anticipated to exacerbate pressures on Armenia and could potentially hinder its ability to sustain its current advancements in Positive Peace, as indicated in the Positive Peace Report 2024.
