Armenia Declines Participation in Moscow CSTO Parliamentary Meeting, Moscow Reacts

Recently, Alen Simonyan, the Chairman of the National Assembly of Armenia, and other MPs of Armenia decided not to participate in the upcoming December 19 meeting of the Parliamentary Assembly (PA) of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in Moscow. At the same time, Yerevan once again indicated that its relations with the CSTO are not frozen, and there is no decision on its withdrawal from the organization.
On December 5, Grigory Karasin, the head of the International Committee of the Council of the Russian Federation, said that Russian senators regularly communicate with their Armenian counterparts directly, via video channels, and through the embassy. "There is no talk of freezing relations," he added.
Answering the agency's question of whether there are bilateral relations between Russian and Armenian lawmakers, Karasin said: "Of course, there are very active relations - both direct, and through video channels, and through embassies, regular." When asked whether there is no talk about the possible freezing of relations between the parliamentarians, the Russian senator emphasized, "We are not talking about it, and we are not thinking about it."
