
Armenia Reports 6.2% Increase in Mortality for Early 2024

On June 5, the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia published data showing that 9,265 people died in Armenia from January to April 2024, a 6.2% increase compared to the same period last year.
More than half of these deaths (55.4% or 5,129 people) were due to diseases of the circulatory system, an 8.1% increase from the same period in 2023. Neoplasms were the second leading cause of death (18.7% or 1,735 people), with a 4.2% rise.
Other causes of death included respiratory diseases (10% or 921 people, an 8.2% increase), digestive diseases (5.3% or 494 people, up 3.8%), external causes of morbidity and mortality (3.6% or 328 people, a 0.3% decrease), and endocrine system diseases (1.8% or 168 people, a 9.1% increase).
During the same period, Armenia experienced a significant decline in birth rate, dropping by 7.7% compared to the previous year. From January to April 2024, 10,547 children were born, while 11,425 births were recorded in the same period of 2023. Additionally, there were 161 cases of stillbirth, a 22.9% increase from the previous year.
