Armenia Temporarily Halts Brandy Exports Amid Georgian Border Congestion
Armenian authorities have responded to media reports suggesting that Armenian brandy exporters are being blocked by customs from crossing into Georgia. In a statement to the Armenpress news agency, Lusine Mkrtchyan, spokesperson for the State Revenue Committee (SRC), confirmed that the restriction is temporary and due to congestion at Georgian border checkpoints.
“The crossing of Armenian cargo vehicles at the Armenian-Georgian border has been deemed inexpedient at this time due to congestion on the Georgian side,” Mkrtchyan said, adding that the measure is aimed at protecting business interests.
She stressed that the restriction, implemented by Armenian customs authorities, will be lifted as soon as the clearance issues on the Georgian side are resolved.
“The State Revenue Committee is acting exclusively in the interest of cargo transporters seeking to cross the border,” Mkrtchyan said. “Once the congestion is resolved, the proper clearance of Armenian vehicles at the checkpoint will be promptly organized.”
