Armenian Armed Forces Chief Reports Stable Border Situation and Ongoing Vigilance
On June 4, Edward Asryan, Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, stated that the border situation remains relatively stable despite occasional untargeted shooting, emphasizing that official reports are issued only for targeted fire.
During a conversation with journalists, Asryan explained that, although shooting is sometimes heard, it is often intended to exert psychological pressure on Armenian military personnel and border communities. He noted, "In cases of targeted shooting, we issue official reports," adding that, despite Azerbaijan’s denials, "it is Azerbaijan that is firing."
Asryan stressed that Armenian forces maintain regular service and reconnaissance operations without responding to provocations. He confirmed that no provocative actions have been observed from the enemy.
Commenting on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that there will be peace rather than war, Asryan said the Prime Minister, as Supreme Commander-in-Chief, has sufficient grounds for his remarks.
Regarding the controversial bill proposed by Aik Sarkisyan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract party, to reduce military service terms in exchange for payment, Asryan noted that the Ministry of Defense would soon present its position.
He also emphasized the ministry’s efforts to combat corruption, stating, "Yes, there are instances of military personnel engaging in corrupt practices or taking such risks. It is our duty to eradicate this."
