Armenian Deputy PM Proposes Azerbaijani Counterpart to Hold Border Demarcation Commission Meeting

Armenian Deputy PM Mher Grigoryan submitted a proposal to Azerbaijani counterpart Shahin Mustafayev to convene a meeting between the respective border demarcation commissions. The proposal's main objective is to address and discuss current pressing issues causing tensions along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
The proposal for a meeting of the border demarcation commissions comes in the wake of recent tensions that have escalated since June 15. On June 17, the Armenian Ministry of Defense reported that Azerbaijani armed forces fired at Armenian positions in the Upper Shorzha area using rifles of various calibers. No casualties were reported on the Armenian side. The Azerbaijani military department, however, denied these claims.
Yerevan rejected subsequent Baku’s allegations that the Armenian side initiated heavy fire towards Azerbaijani positions on June 17. The Armenian Defense Ministry strongly asserts that Azerbaijan is establishing a narrative to support another provocative action.
