Armenian, Japanese Leaders Discuss Trade, Education, and Peace at Tokyo Meeting

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba in Tokyo, where the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties across a wide range of areas.
Welcoming Pashinyan at Kantei, the official residence of the Japanese Prime Minister, Ishiba described the visit as an important opportunity to advance Armenian–Japanese relations and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. He highlighted Japan’s interest in enhancing ties with Armenia and emphasized the importance of joint initiatives in various sectors.
Ishiba also welcomed the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, voicing hope that stability and sustainable peace would prevail in the South Caucasus.
For his part, Nikol Pashinyan expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reiterated Armenia’s readiness to expand cooperation with Japan, particularly in the economic sphere. He underlined that a bilateral business forum is expected soon, which he said would significantly enhance trade and investment relations and encourage greater involvement of Japanese businesses in Armenia.
The Armenian premier praised existing cooperation in disaster prevention, human resource development, infrastructure, and small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) development, as well as Japan’s longstanding support for Armenia through development and technical assistance projects.
Pashinyan also congratulated his counterpart on the successful organization of Expo 2025 and expressed gratitude for Japan’s support for Armenia’s participation, calling the event a valuable platform to advance bilateral cooperation.
The two prime ministers discussed future steps in Armenian–Japanese cooperation, focusing on economic and investment ties, as well as strengthening collaboration in education, science, culture, and tourism. They also exchanged views on regional security and the importance of lasting peace.
The meeting concluded with an official dinner hosted by Ishiba in honor of Pashinyan.
