Armenian Minister Backs Bilateral Border Talks with Azerbaijan

On November 5, Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan commented on the ongoing Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiation process, emphasizing that the bilateral format has proven effective in advancing border demarcation discussions.
In a conversation with journalists in the Armenian Parliament, Papoyan noted that recent negotiations and meetings between foreign ministers and heads of state have occurred without third-party mediation. “The bilateral format has yielded results. What other formats are there? If someone comes with another format and participates, whether he wants to or not, he represents his interests,” Papoyan stated, expressing support for the continuation of this bilateral approach.
Papoyan highlighted that Armenia has managed to secure a specific section of the state border through this format and stressed the importance of Armenia’s independent pursuit of its interests. He pointed to the progress made in the demarcation process as a positive example of Armenia's capacity to uphold its positions.
The minister also addressed the issue of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces’ presence in what Armenia considers occupied territories. He assured that this issue would remain on the agenda for future negotiations, although he refrained from specifying a timeline. “I cannot say whether we will reach this stage today, tomorrow, or in two years. All issues will be discussed,” Papoyan affirmed. He added that if the current momentum continues, further areas could be demarcated in line with this approach.
