Armenian MP Konjoryan Refutes Western Influence in Peace Negotiations

During an interview on Public Television of Armenia, Hayk Konjoryan, the leader of the ruling majority Civil Contract Faction in the National Assembly, reiterated that their primary focus is achieving peace. He addressed concerns about Armenia’s stance being influenced by Western pressure, emphasizing that despite challenges like the de-Armenianization of Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev did not sign a peace treaty under Western influence.
“Differences between Azerbaijan’s declared and real agendas also cause us concerns, which we raise at all levels,” Konjoryan added.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently stated that Azerbaijan is prepared to sign a peace treaty in Moscow, but Armenia is not ready. When questioned about Armenia's reluctance to sign the peace treaty mediated by Russia, the leader of Armenia's ruling parliamentary faction emphasized that there is still no mutually agreed text for the treaty.
Konjoryan emphasized that Armenia prioritizes its interests over the negotiation platforms.
In response to the remark that Armenia engaged in negotiations on Western platforms despite the absence of an agreed text and queried about the reason for not participating in Moscow under similar circumstances, Konjoryan reiterated that the issue lies in the existing disagreements over certain aspects of the peace treaty.
“At the moment, there is no treaty because there is no agreement on all issues, and after that, all technical and platform-related issues become secondary,” Konjoryan noted.
In response to criticism suggesting that Armenian authorities aimed to surrender Karabakh to Azerbaijan in exchange for a peace treaty but failed, the Armenian MP emphasized that such a concept was never part of their agenda.
