Armenian Nuclear Plant May Operate Until 2036 Under Rosatom Plan

On July 30, Rosatom announced it is studying the possibility of extending the operational life of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) for another ten years.
The state corporation stated that specialists from Rosatom Service installed witness samples in the reactor vessel of power unit No. 2 of the Armenian NPP. "The samples are made of metal identical to the reactor vessel. The unloading will start in 2025 and will be carried out annually. This will help assess changes in the actual characteristics of the metal (strength, brittleness, etc.)," the state corporation explained.
Evgeny Salkov, the General Director of Rosatom Service, stated, "Thus, we ensure reliable control and detailed monitoring of one of the most important devices of the nuclear power plant."
Notably, in December, the Armenian NPP and Rosatom Service signed a framework contract to extend the nuclear plant's life until 2036. According to the contract, large-scale modernization works on the power unit are planned, contributing to the safe and reliable operation of power unit No. 2. As a result, the Armenian NPP reported that the power unit's service life can be extended until 2036.
