Armenian Parliament Greenlights EU Mission Agreement

On March 20, the Armenian National Assembly ratified the agreement between the Transcaucasian Republic and the European Union regarding the status of the EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA). The ratification process saw 57 votes in favor and no votes against, with 27 MPs abstaining.
This agreement outlined the functions and operations of the EU mission within Armenia, detailing its role and responsibilities on the country's territory. Notably, the agreement designated the observation mission on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, along with its units, headquarters, and staff, as having diplomatic status recognized by Armenian authorities. This recognition included customs and tax privileges corresponding to diplomatic status.
Additionally, the agreement delineated the roles of relevant state bodies in facilitating the activities of the EU mission in Armenia, procedures for border crossing and travel within the country, privileges and immunities granted to the mission, and matters about criminal jurisdiction, security, and access to information.
