Armenia's Reduced CIS Engagement Sparks Concerns From Secretary General

On January 27, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Secretary General Sergey Lebedev expressed hope for Armenia's return to full cooperation within the CIS framework following its decision not to participate in the Commonwealth election observation mission in Belarus.
"I very much hope that Armenia will return to full cooperation within the CIS framework," Lebedev stated, adding that Belarus is also open to cooperation with Armenia.
Lebedev emphasized the challenges Armenia may face without cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the CIS. "It will be difficult for Armenia to be without the CIS countries and without cooperation within the EAEU and CIS. And why unnecessary difficulties, difficulties for the people of Armenia? As far as I know, the CIS countries and Belarus are ready to help Armenia preserve this cooperation," he noted.
Commenting on Armenia's recently signed strategic partnership charter with the United States and its plans to deepen ties with the European Union, Lebedev noted that while many agreements are signed, not all are implemented. "A lot of documents are signed, but not all of them are implemented. Then life makes its adjustments," he remarked.
