Assassination Attempt on Former Ingushetia Official Linked to Ukrainian Army Veteran

On October 22, it was reported that Vasily Konovalov, 50, who had previously been convicted under Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, was hired to assassinate Sherip Alikhadzhiyev, the former Deputy Head of Ingushetia's government.
The assassination attempt was allegedly organized by an unidentified customer who contacted Konovalov through an old acquaintance. The report also notes that a relative of Konovalov, identified by a social media profile featuring a yellow and blue flag avatar, had made posts supporting Ukraine and expressing hatred toward Russians. Konovalov himself reportedly served in the Ukrainian army from 1992 to 1994.
Earlier, Irina Volk, a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, confirmed that criminal investigators from the Moscow region had detained both the perpetrator and the customer behind the assassination attempt. Both individuals were handed over to investigative authorities, though no further details about them were disclosed.
The attempt on Alikhadzhiyev's life occurred on the evening of October 10, when an unidentified assailant shot him four times outside his residence in the village of Lapino. Two bullets struck Alikhadzhiyev, and he was transported to the hospital. A criminal case was opened for attempted murder. Alikhadzhiyev, who is now an aide to State Duma deputy Vladimir Shamanov, has survived multiple assassination attempts in the past, including one in 2002 when an improvised explosive device was found in his office.
