On March 18, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the Azerbaijani President and Head of the Department for Foreign Policy Affairs at the Presidential Administration, made remarks regarding his visit to China.
Hajiyev highlighted that during the meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the Chairman of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Samarkand, strategic objectives were outlined to elevate the bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level and identify fresh avenues for cooperation. Currently, the ties between Azerbaijan and China have made comprehensive progress in this regard, with the comprehensive development of relations and further deepening being marked as priority directions.
Addressing the visit, Hajiyev stated, "Discussions with our Chinese counterparts revolved around enhancing bilateral relations, particularly through political consultations, expanding trade and economic ties, and cooperation within the context of the ‘Middle Corridor.’ The Middle Corridor has reaffirmed its significance in international transportation and trade, eliciting considerable interest from the Chinese side."
Hajiyev emphasized Azerbaijan's upcoming hosting of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) this year. He underscored that both Azerbaijan and China, as developing countries representing the Global South, share mutual interests. China's extensive experience in "green energy" was extensively discussed during the meetings in Beijing.
Furthermore, the official representative of the Presidential Administration highlighted the close ties between Azerbaijan and China, noting mutual support within international organizations.
