Azerbaijan and Georgia Strengthen Economic Ties During High-Level Meetings in Baku
On July 11, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, energy, transport, and infrastructure, highlighting the close and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Georgia.
Meeting with Ilham Aliyev
On July 11, Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, received Mariam Kvrivishvili, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development. During the meeting, President Aliyev congratulated Kvrivishvili on her appointment and noted that her visit to Baku so soon after assuming office reflected the close cooperation between Azerbaijan and Georgia. In response, Kvrivishvili expressed her gratitude for the hospitality and congratulations, adding that she was honored to meet with the Azerbaijani head of state. She conveyed the greetings of Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia, to Aliyev, who in turn expressed his appreciation and asked that his own greetings be delivered to Kobakhidze.
The Azerbaijani president recalled with satisfaction that Irakli Kobakhidze made his first foreign visit as prime minister to Azerbaijan in January following Georgia’s parliamentary elections, describing the move as a clear example of the friendship and brotherhood uniting the two nations. Kvrivishvili emphasized President Aliyev’s standing as a global leader and stated that he was highly regarded as a friend in Georgia.
Both sides highlighted the extensive and strategic bilateral agenda, noting the significance of ongoing cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, and joint infrastructure projects, not only for the two countries but also for the wider region. They stressed the importance of strengthening both bilateral and multilateral collaboration in areas such as connectivity, trade, investment, and energy, while expressing confidence in the further expansion of relations in multiple directions. The two officials underscored that Azerbaijan remains one of Georgia’s main trade partners and acknowledged the substantial potential to increase mutual trade turnover. They also exchanged views on the implementation of joint projects across various sectors of the economy.
Meeting with Mikayil Jabbarov
On the same day, Mikayil Jabbarov, the Azerbaijani Economy Minister, wrote on X that Azerbaijan had reviewed prospects for cooperation with Georgia in several key sectors. Jabbarov stated, "We were pleased to welcome the delegation led by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, to our country. During the meeting, we reviewed the priority areas for the development of Azerbaijan–Georgia economic relations and discussed prospects for enhanced cooperation in energy, transport, infrastructure, trade, and investment. We also emphasized the mutual benefits of joint projects for both countries and the broader region".
