Azerbaijan Expands Agricultural Cooperation With Japan, Mongolia, And China

On September 17–18, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Agriculture, Majnun Mammadov, held meetings with the ambassadors of Japan, Mongolia, and China to discuss joint agricultural cooperation, trade, innovation, technology transfer, and the establishment of working groups.

On September 17, Majnun Mammadov met with Katsuya Watanabe, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Azerbaijan. Welcoming the ambassador, Minister Mammadov provided detailed information on state support for Azerbaijan's agricultural sector. He noted that cooperation between Azerbaijan and Japan is developing dynamically in all areas and that Azerbaijan fully supports all initiatives aimed at strengthening their economic and trade relations. The meeting focused on issues such as strengthening the legal and contractual framework for agricultural cooperation, creating a joint agricultural working group, establishing relations with relevant Japanese universities to exchange experience in advanced technologies, ensuring regular participation by Ministry of Agriculture specialists in trainings organized by the Japan International Cooperation System, studying Japan's experience with bio-farms and hydroponics, and cooperating on agricultural research and innovation. Ambassador Katsuya Watanabe emphasized that Japan is a friendly country to Azerbaijan and is interested in developing their partnership in all areas. He noted the great potential for expanding cooperation in agriculture, innovation, and technology. A wide exchange of views on issues of mutual interest was held during the meeting.

On September 18, Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov discussed the possibility of establishing a joint working group on agricultural cooperation with Gombosuren Munkhbayar, the Mongolian Ambassador to Azerbaijan. During the meeting, Mammadov provided detailed information on state support for Azerbaijan’s agricultural sector and emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation based on trust, mutual respect, and sustainable development. He highlighted the significance of agricultural collaboration and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s full support for initiatives aimed at enhancing economic and trade relations with Mongolia. The discussions also covered prospects for cooperation in livestock development, the agricultural legal framework, and the formation of a joint working group. Ambassador Munkhbayar described Azerbaijan as a friendly country and expressed Mongolia’s interest in expanding partnerships across all sectors, underlining the potential for deepening agricultural cooperation. Both sides confirmed their mutual interest in advancing the areas discussed.

In a parallel meeting, Mammadov met with Lu Mei, the Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan, to discuss strengthening agricultural cooperation. Topics included improving the legal framework, establishing a joint working group, boosting trade in agricultural and food products, transferring advanced technologies, and developing research and innovation in the sector. Mammadov emphasized Azerbaijan’s growing cooperation with China across all areas and reiterated full support for initiatives aimed at deepening economic and trade ties. Ambassador Lu Mei highlighted the friendly relations between the two countries and stressed China’s interest in expanding partnerships, particularly in agriculture, innovation, and technology. Both parties expressed shared interest in advancing the discussed areas of collaboration.
