Azerbaijan, Serbia Strengthen Energy Partnership, Highlight Serbia's Transit Role

On September 1, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan received Marko Djuric, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, in Baku.
During the meeting, Minister Djuric conveyed greetings from Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to President Aliyev and extended well wishes for the snap parliamentary elections held in Azerbaijan. Djuric also commended the achievements Azerbaijan has made under President Aliyev's leadership.
Djuric congratulated Azerbaijan on hosting COP29, emphasizing that Azerbaijan has successfully established new global partnerships. President Aliyev expressed his gratitude for President Vučić’s greetings and requested that Djuric convey his regards to the Serbian President. Recalling his meetings with Vučić in both Azerbaijan and Serbia, Aliyev highlighted the “strong friendship and partnership between the two leaders, which has significantly contributed to the development of bilateral relations.”
President Aliyev described Serbia as Azerbaijan's close friend and strategic partner, noting the sincere ties between the two nations and their peoples. He emphasized that these relations have facilitated cooperation across various fields. The President also underscored that the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia are important for bilateral ties and for fostering cooperation between the Balkan and Caucasus regions.
Aliyev further remarked that Azerbaijan has faced “double standards, injustice, and attitudes contrary to international law in its pursuit of sovereignty and territorial integrity.” However, he affirmed that Azerbaijan has “successfully ensured its territorial integrity through its own determination.”
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation in the energy sector, noting Serbia's role as a transit country for the export of Azerbaijan's energy resources to Europe, including the Balkans. The two leaders also reaffirmed their mutual support within international organizations, particularly regarding their principled territorial integrity and sovereignty positions. The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on various areas of cooperation.
