On July 8, Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, received Ayman Al Safadi, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan, in Baku. During the meeting, Al Safadi conveyed greetings from King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan and extended an invitation for Aliyev to visit Jordan, noting that the King highly values his personal relations with the Azerbaijani leader. Aliyev thanked Al Safadi for the greetings and asked him to convey his regards to the King of Jordan. The President of Azerbaijan also invited Abdullah II to visit Azerbaijan and recalled his previous meetings with the Jordanian monarch in Azerbaijan, Jordan and on the sidelines of international events.

During the talks, the sides emphasized that regular high-level contacts and mutual visits play an important role in strengthening bilateral relations, which they described as being based on friendship and brotherhood. They highlighted opportunities to expand cooperation in political, economic, energy, connectivity, investment, humanitarian and other fields. The sides also exchanged views on regional developments, future contacts, the activities of the intergovernmental commission and interparliamentary cooperation. The meeting also addressed tourism cooperation, including the possibility of launching direct regular flights between Azerbaijan and Jordan.

Later, Jeyhun Bayramov, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, and Al Safadi held expanded-format talks in Baku. The ministers discussed the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation in political, economic, trade, humanitarian and other areas, as well as regional and international issues. Bayramov and Al Safadi stressed the importance of expanding the legal framework between the two countries and making more effective use of the Azerbaijan-Jordan Joint Commission on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation to ensure further development of bilateral ties.

During the visit, the two countries signed an Agreement on the Mutual Abolition of Visa Requirements for Holders of Ordinary Passports and a Memorandum of Understanding on energy cooperation between the relevant ministries of Azerbaijan and Jordan. Bayramov also informed his Jordanian counterpart about the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, including the agreements reached during the Washington Summit in August 2025 and the current stage of the peace process.

Speaking at a joint press briefing, Bayramov stated that the latest round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and Jordan had also been held in Baku. He noted that both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of relations, emphasizing that close and sincere contacts between the leaders of the two countries serve as the foundation of bilateral ties. "We expressed satisfaction with the current state of relations and particularly noted that the close and sincere contacts between the leaders of the two countries form the foundation of these ties," Bayramov stated. The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan added that the two countries had signed two important agreements and that additional documents covering different areas of cooperation were expected in the near future.

Bayramov stated that Azerbaijan and Jordan share the view that disputes surrounding Iran should be resolved exclusively through diplomatic means. He emphasized that both countries support efforts aimed at preserving stability under the current circumstances. "We expressed our shared view on the need to preserve stability under the current circumstances, particularly regarding Iran, and to resolve the conflict exclusively through diplomatic means. Both countries are ready to take the necessary steps in this regard," Bayramov stated.

Bayramov also highlighted the possibility of joint projects involving Azerbaijan, Jordan and Türkiye, describing their cooperation potential as significant. He noted the growing importance of the Middle Corridor and Azerbaijan's role in transporting Caspian energy resources to international markets. According to him, new transportation routes connecting the Middle East and Mediterranean regions create additional opportunities for cooperation. The Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan announced that an Azerbaijani economic delegation would visit Jordan in the coming months to explore opportunities for expanding bilateral economic ties and launching joint projects. He said representatives of various government agencies would participate in the delegation and that an Azerbaijan-Jordan business forum could also be organized. Bayramov stated that the current level of economic cooperation does not reflect the full potential of relations between the two countries. He identified industry, agriculture, transport and digital development as promising areas for cooperation and stressed the importance of focusing not only on increasing trade but also on implementing joint investment projects.

He also warned Azerbaijani citizens against participating in armed conflicts abroad, emphasizing that such activities are considered criminal offenses under Azerbaijani law. He stated that individuals are often recruited through false promises and various methods, warning that participation in foreign conflicts may lead to legal consequences, including the possible loss of Azerbaijani citizenship.

Al Safadi stated that the signing of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia would represent an important regional development. "Jordan supports this step. The signing of the peace agreement has regional significance," the Jordanian Foreign Minister emphasized. Al Safadi emphasized that Azerbaijan and Jordan should further expand cooperation in trade, tourism and business. He noted that Jordan attaches importance to its historical ties with Azerbaijan and said the mutual visa exemption agreement would provide additional opportunities for tourism and economic cooperation. "Azerbaijan and Jordan can further expand relations in business, trade, tourism, and other areas. Naturally, we will continue our discussions with Azerbaijan on a regular basis," Al Safadi stated.
