
Baku Port Increases Cargo Turnover with Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan

Khudayar Hasanli, the Department of Strategic Planning and Development of the Baku Port, stated that the total volume of cargo turnover of Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC in 2022 amounted to 6 million 314 thousand tons, which is 13.6% more than in 2021.
According to him, the cargo turnover between the main sea harbor of the Azerbaijani and Turkmen ports last year amounted to 3 million 359 thousand tons (53% of the total), with the ports of Kazakhstan - 2 million 382 thousand (38%). Cargo turnover with other ports in the Caspian amounted to only 571 thousand tons. Hasanli noted that the share of transit cargo was 90% of the total volume of cargo turnover of the Baku port.
Notably, the port of Baku is considered a key hub in the transport scheme of the Caspian country, and it is a free trade zone for global, regional, and local companies. Currently, there is a ferry terminal and a cargo terminal commissioned as part of the first phase of construction work. The port's capacity is 15 million tons of dry cargo and 100,000 containers.
