Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Poised for Major Expansion in Freight Traffic by 2025

On September 2, Rovshan Rustamov, the chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), confirmed that the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway will see a significant increase in rail freight transportation starting next year.
After a year of inactivity, the BTK railway line is poised to become a more critical artery for regional trade, with new agreements facilitating the transportation of goods from China via this route. Rustamov noted that the number of block trains from China exceeded expectations, with 190 block trains passing through the corridor this year.
The forecast anticipates more than 250 block trains by the end of the year, and in 2025, 50 block trains per month are expected to be sent along this corridor. The shipment of goods from eastern China through the Middle Corridor has already begun, marking a significant development in Eurasian trade connectivity.
