Belarus Responds to Yerevan's CSTO Suspension

On February 23, Anatoly Glaz, the Spokesman of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, expressed Minsk's expectation for constructive cooperation with Yerevan in the future.
Glaz responded to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's interview with France 24 TV channel by stating that they viewed it without any need for additional commentary. He emphasized that Belarus maintains normal contact with Armenian counterparts, highlighting Armenia's status as a partner and the ongoing consideration of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) issues in their bilateral interactions.
Regarding the legal aspects of CSTO activities, Glaz clarified that Belarus had not received any official notifications. Despite this, the Belarusian side anticipates constructive collaboration with Yerevan across various current issues.
As previously reported by Caucasus Watch, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced in a France24 interview that Armenia has suspended its participation in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) due to perceived non-implementation, particularly concerning Azerbaijan's aggression. Pashinyan hinted at potential future actions regarding Armenia's involvement in the CSTO. He refrained from confirming the closure of the Russian military base in Armenia, highlighting its separate legal framework. The CSTO Secretariat clarified that Armenia's freeze likely refers to non-participation in CSTO events and noted the absence of official statements from Yerevan on membership suspension. Russian officials, including Dmitry Peskov, emphasized the need for clarification from Armenia, with President Putin yet to engage directly with Pashinyan on the matter.
