Catholicos of All Armenians Calls on Pashinyan to Resign; Pashinyan Compares Himself to God

On April 20, Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II reiterated his call to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to resign as indefinite.
The head of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) explained that the paternal covenant he voiced after the 44-day war in Karabakh in the fall of 2020 was due to an attempt to overcome and resolve the crisis arising in the country.
"The situation in the republic remains dangerous and worrying. Incorrect and unacceptable statements are being made regarding the status of Nagorno-Karabakh. The deepening disunity, impatience, the spirit of intolerance of our people are worrying," the Catholicos said.
According to him, much work is needed in this regard. He believes that solving problems and overcoming challenges is possible only by fully consolidating national potential.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan immediately reacted to the statement of the Catholicos. "If the church has a bad relationship with the government, it has a bad relationship with God," he said during a speech in the country's parliament, Sputnik Armenia reported.
"Very often the government's relations with the church want to present as bad or problematic. I will make a loud statement: if the church's relations with the government are bad, then the church's relations with God are bad," Pashinyan said.
The head of the Armenian government stressed that the church should think about its vision, essence and faith.
