
CSTO Chief Addresses Armenia's Non-Participation Concerns

In an interview with TASS published on March 12, Imangali Tasmagambetov, the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), addressed Armenia's recent non-participation in the organization's secretariat. Tasmagambetov clarified that while Armenia has chosen not to participate in CSTO activities, there have been no official statements regarding the suspension of Armenia's membership.
Tasmagambetov emphasized that the CSTO respects Armenia's decision as a sovereign state and assured that the organization's activities continue unabated, adhering to the CSTO's normative framework. Despite Armenia's absence from the secretariat's work, relevant decisions are communicated to Armenian structures.
Regarding concerns about Armenia's political atmosphere, he expressed hope for the political leadership's prudence and emphasized Armenia's continued status as an ally within the CSTO. While acknowledging apprehensions among Armenian elites, he stressed the importance of balanced assessments and the continuation of existing commitments between Armenia and the organization.
Tasmagambetov underscored the CSTO's adherence to organizational regulations and procedures while monitoring Armenia's situation and relations with the organization. He emphasized the organization's commitment to analyzing developments through available tools and analytical resources.
