Czech Republic imposes sanctions on Georgian MIA officials for repression of protests

On 29 January, the Czech Republic imposed sanctions on three senior officials of the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for their involvement in the "brutal repression of protests".
Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský said that the government had approved the sanctions on his proposal, targeting three MIA officials for their direct responsibility in the repression of protests in Georgia last year. He added: "In layman's terms, they are thugs. And we do not want them in the Czech Republic."
