Dagestani Official: "Land Border Between Azerbaijan and Dagestan to be Opened Soon"

While speaking at the AITF-2023 Tourism and Travel exhibition in Baku on April 6, Emin Merdanov, Acting Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Dagestan, said that the land borders are expected to be opened between Azerbaijan and Dagestan shortly.
According to Merdanov, the event opened up new promising areas and additional opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation with international partners. "In the near future, land borders are expected to be opened between Azerbaijan and Dagestan, which will certainly have a positive impact on the level of our relations not only in the transport and logistics, industrial and other sectors of the economy but also in the field of tourism," he said.
Notably, Azerbaijan is an important trading partner for Dagestan, with bilateral trade totaling around $50 million in 2020. The two regions trade in various goods, including agricultural products, textiles, machinery, and chemicals. Azerbaijan is also a significant market for Dagestan's fruit and vegetable exports. In addition to trade, efforts have been made to promote investment and joint ventures between Dagestan and Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani companies have invested in various sectors in Dagestan, including agriculture, construction, and logistics. For example, Azerbaijani investors have participated in constructing the Caspian Port in Dagestan, an important transportation hub in the region. Furthermore, Dagestan and Azerbaijan have signed agreements to cooperate in energy, tourism, and education. These agreements aim to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise between the two regions and to promote further economic cooperation.
