Dagestan's Children's Ombudsperson Urges Youth to Prioritize Education Over Early Marriage

Children's Ombudsperson of Dagestan Marina Yezhova urged Dagestani youth not to rush to get married without getting an education and a profession.
"What a foolish fashion has gone: I don't study, I don't work, I'll finish these nine classes faster and get married faster. For what?" the Ombudsperson asked.
"There are thousands of examples of outstanding women in the history of Dagestan," Yezhova recalled. "The republic was first led by Roza Eldarova almost 70 years ago. Even then, women had such potential that they occupied any position," she added.
"How is it possible now, in the 21st century, having even more opportunities for both education and development, how can you drive yourself into such a humiliating position that you have no education, no profession, no job, you can’t do anything, you don’t know anything. Why run away to get married at the age of 15?" Yezhova stressed.
