Dagestan's Former PM Sentenced to Five Years In Prison

The Meshchansky Court of Moscow found former Prime Minister of Dagestan Mukhtar Mejidov guilty of fraud on an especially large scale and sentenced him to five years in prison and a fine of EUR 13.5 thousand.
According to investigators, in 2012, Medzhidov lobbied for the interests of his companies and Russian Radioelectronics. He convinced the Ministry of Defense employees that the radio plant in Izberbash had the necessary capacity to manufacture and supply a radar landing system. As a result, the military department transferred EUR 1.6 million to the supplier as an advance payment; part of this money went to the settlement account of Russian Radio Electronics under a fictitious contract for the supply of electrical equipment. However, the Ministry of Defense never received the ordered kits.
The former director of Pleshakov's Izberbash Radio Plant, Firyaz Farmanov, is also a defendant in the criminal case being considered by the Russian Verkhovna Rada (Supreme Council). According to "Kommersant," Farman was sentenced to seven years in prison as a result of the state's prosecution.
Notably, Mukhtar Majidov led Dagestan's government from January to July 2013. Before that, he was the federal republic's deputy prime minister and a member of the regional legislature. In March 2020, he was detained in Moscow.
