Eight Georgian Opposition Parties Call for Election Boycott in October
On August 25, eight Georgian opposition parties called on other opposition parties and politicians to boycott the October 4 elections and "return to unity."
The joint statement, read by Elene Khoshtaria, the leader of Droa, urged citizens to gather on September 13, declaring: "We call on everyone, regardless of their political preferences, for whom Georgian citizenship, Georgian passports, and the well-being of a Georgian family are important, to gather in large numbers on September 13 to demonstrate that Ivanishvili's gang of criminals does not represent Georgia and the Georgian people."
The opposition parties emphasized that the upcoming elections were "a Russian special operation" and appealed to politicians who "truly care about the independence and European future of this country" to refuse to participate.
"Do not make a mistake that is worse than a crime; refuse to participate in the Russian special operation on October 4 and return to unity," the statement read. The appeal was signed by the parties Freedom Square, Girchi – More Freedom, Droa, United National Movement, Akhali, Strategy Agmashenebeli, Federalists, and European Georgia.
