Elchin Amirbayov Emphasizes Critical Stage in Azerbaijan-Armenia Peace Agreement Negotiations

On October 5, Elchin Amirbayov, the Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan, announced that negotiations for finalizing a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia have reached a critical stage.
In an exclusive interview with writer and historian Carlo Marino for Faro di Roma and Eurasiaticanews, Amirbayov reaffirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to achieving a lasting and irreversible peace with Armenia. He emphasized, “It is our sacred duty to ensure that the future peace agreement eliminates even the theoretical possibility of territorial claims, aggression, or military conflict.” He highlighted Azerbaijan’s suffering from past conflicts and stressed the importance of preventing their recurrence.
Amirbayov urged Armenia to urgently address the territorial claims in its constitution, which he said include references to Azerbaijan’s sovereign territory. He criticized Armenia for focusing on signing a poorly drafted agreement without resolving the core issues, and noted that the next move is in Armenia’s hands. He expressed hope that the opportunity to turn the page on past tragedies would not be missed.
