EU Allocates 10 Million Euros to Support Azerbaijan's Demining Efforts

On June 25, the European Union (EU) announced an additional allocation of 10 million euros for 2024-2025 to help Azerbaijan tackle the problem of explosive remnants of war.
"This initiative is an integral part of the EU's broader activities to support mine action in Azerbaijan. The EU and its Member States are the largest international donors supporting mine action in Azerbaijan to date. The launch of this 'Team Europe' initiative in early May is a clear example of this commitment," the statement said. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen confirmed plans for significant financial assistance to Azerbaijan following a telephone conversation with President Ilham Aliyev on April 4. "It is planned to allocate an additional 10 million euros in 2024-2025," she said.
According to the European Union, Azerbaijan is committed to establishing a center of excellence in cooperation with the UN and international partners. The first seminar, organized jointly with ANAMA and supported by the EU's Technical Assistance and Information Exchange Instrument (TAIEX), served as a platform for sharing advanced experiences, lessons learned and innovative solutions. Experts from Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina were invited to share their knowledge on majority and risk management, quality and risk management, environmental aspects and new technologies in these fields, as noted by the European Union of Azerbaijan.
