EU Allocates EUR 30 Million Defense Aid to Georgia

On May 4, the European Union allocated €70 million to improve the defense capability of Moldova and Georgia, the Council of the European Union reported.
According to the Council of the EU, support from the European Peace Fund for the Armed Forces of Moldova and the Defense Forces of Georgia will contribute to strengthening the two countries' national security, stability, and resilience.
"It will also help improve operational efficiency, the cooperation potential of the two countries' armed forces, and accelerate compliance with EU standards. This will better protect the civilian population during crises and emergencies," the EU added.
The measure also aims to strengthen the capacity of Moldova and Georgia to participate more effectively in EU military missions and operations in non-EU countries. EU funding for the Armed Forces of Moldova over the next 36 months will be €40 million and for units of the Georgian Defense Forces, €30 million. Approved military equipment includes aerial surveillance equipment, mobility and logistics support equipment, and cyber defense equipment.
