EU Approves €20 Million Support to Strengthen Armenia’s Armed Forces
The European Union has approved a new €20 million assistance measure for Armenia under the European Peace Facility, marking another step in deepening EU–Armenia cooperation in security and defense.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas said the decision reflects the EU’s growing engagement with Armenia and its commitment to regional stability.
“This European Peace Facility assistance measure is another step towards closer cooperation between the EU and Armenia in the area of security and defense,” Kallas said. “With this measure, the EU demonstrates its commitment to further supporting Armenia’s resilience, which contributes to stability, peace and security of the whole region.”
The Council of the EU adopted the measure on January 29. According to the official statement, the funding will focus on strengthening the logistical capacities of Armenia’s armed forces, with particular emphasis on protecting civilians during crisis and emergency situations. The assistance is also intended to enhance Armenia’s resilience and improve the interoperability of its military, including for potential future participation in international missions and EU-led operations.
The new package builds on an earlier assistance measure launched in 2024, which provided a deployable tent camp. The latest decision expands support to brigade-level capacity. With this addition, total EU assistance to Armenia under the European Peace Facility now amounts to €30 million.
The Council said the aid forms part of the EU’s broader partnership with Armenia, grounded in shared values and aimed at promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in Armenia and across the South Caucasus. It also reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to strengthening political and economic ties with Yerevan under the new Strategic Agenda for the EU–Armenia Partnership.
