
EU Contemplates Expanding Monitoring Mission in Armenia Amid Azerbaijani Threats

A senior European Union (EU) official in Brussels indicated that the EU is considering the possibility of increasing the scope of its monitoring mission in Armenia. This move is in response to the threats made by Azerbaijan against Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Currently, there are priorities for Brussels, as explained by a senior European official speaking to RFE/RL’s Armenian Service. The first priority is to maintain mediation efforts to resolve the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and facilitate the signing of a peace treaty. The second priority is supporting to strengthen Armenia's stability and development.
The high-ranking European diplomat clarified that EU officials had communicated their deep concern to Azerbaijani representatives regarding any actions that may undermine Armenia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Additionally, the EU official mentioned that in the upcoming week, foreign ministers will discuss various strategies to enhance and support Armenia in financial, security, and democratic aspects to enable the country to withstand cyber-attacks or hybrid attacks.
The European official stressed the importance of vigilance against potential actions by Russia in Armenia, especially considering PM Pashinyan’s recent public statements about perceived betrayal by his allies.
