EU Reaffirms Readiness to Support TRIPP and Crossroads of Peace Initiatives as Armenia, US Continue Peace Dialogue
The European Union is ready to deploy its tools to advance regional connectivity within the framework of the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) project and, more broadly, Armenia’s Crossroads of Peace initiative, EU Ambassador to Armenia Vassilis Maragos told reporters during a visit to Syunik province.
“The events and meetings that took place in Washington on August 8 were welcomed by the European Union,” Ambassador Maragos said, referring to the U.S.-brokered Armenian-Azerbaijani peace agreement. “Since then, we have expressed our readiness to support these initiatives and connectivity. We are prepared to contribute our tools not only within the framework of the Trump Route project, but also in the broader context of the ‘Crossroads of Peace’ initiative - which the European Union welcomed two years ago, when the Government of Armenia first announced it.”
Maragos emphasized that the EU consistently supports peace in the South Caucasus. “We are very happy to see peace approaching. Many details still need to be clarified, but we are here - as a reliable partner of Armenia, the Armenian people, and the Government of Armenia - to support you throughout this process,” he said.
The TRIPP project, envisaged under the US-brokered Armenian-Azerbaijani joint declaration signed in Washington, D.C., aims to unlock strategic economic opportunities by promoting infrastructure investment and enhancing regional connectivity. The project is an integral part of Armenia’s Crossroads of Peace initiative, designed to transform the South Caucasus into a hub of cooperation, transport, and trade.
Meanwhile, Armenia’s Ambassador to the United States, Narek Mkrtchyan, met with US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., during an event dedicated to the Sharm El Sheikh Summit for Peace and commemorating the second anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attacks against Israel.
According to the Armenian Embassy, the two officials discussed “the progress of the August 8 agreements and regional developments.” On August 8, Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a US -brokered joint declaration and initialed a peace treaty in Washington, alongside several bilateral Armenia–US cooperation deals.
Mr. Witkoff reaffirmed the United States’ consistent support for the peace agenda, the Embassy said in its statement. Ambassador Mkrtchyan, in turn, expressed his gratitude to Mr. Witkoff for his ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the South Caucasus region.
