European Union Announces 5 Million Euro Humanitarian Aid for Karabakh Armenians

On September 26, the European Union announced that it has mobilized 5 million euros in humanitarian aid to support the Karabakh Armenians. The humanitarian aid will be provided to the displaced people who have left Karabakh for Armenia in recent days, as well as to the population remaining in Karabakh.
"The escalation of the conflict and the subsequent ceasefire is expected to lead to a mass exodus of people from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia, and some 13,500 refugees have already crossed the border. At the same time, there are serious shortages of food, electricity and water in the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave," the European Commission said.
Recently, the European Union announced that it has allocated 500,000 euros in emergency humanitarian aid to meet the basic needs of the population affected by the recent military operations in Karabakh, such as shelter and food. "We must be ready to support thousands of people who have decided to leave Nagorno-Karabakh, especially in the coming winter months when refugees will face additional difficulties. The EU is dramatically increasing its humanitarian aid to the region to provide emergency assistance both to people in need inside the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave and to those currently displaced in Armenia," said EU Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič.
