The Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction in Yerevan ruled to impose a two-month detention as a preventive measure against Tiran Khachatryan, the former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, who is facing charges of hooliganism.

A public criminal prosecution was initiated against Tiran Khachatryan under the Armenian Criminal Code article related to hooliganism, specifically involving the use of a weapon or threats to use one.

Armenian military official Tiran Khachatryan was detained in connection with a criminal case involving an altercation and subsequent shooting at a restaurant in Aramus village, Kotayk Province, on January 11. The incident resulted in a hand injury to an individual, who has been identified as the victim and questioned as part of the ongoing criminal investigation.

Opponents of Pashinyan’s government criticize the detention of Tiran Khachatryan, viewing it as another fabricated charge intended to justify what they perceive as a deliberate effort to undermine the military.
