Four Sentenced in Russia for 2023 Anti-Israeli Riot at Makhachkala Airport
On July 18, the Stavropol Regional Court delivered a verdict against four residents of Dagestan for their involvement in the riots at Makhachkala's Uytash Airport on October 29, 2023. The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office stated that it was established that Patimat Sharudinova, Devletkhan Ramazanov, Gadzhi Imanmurzaev, and Asker Budaykhanov participated in mass riots motivated by national and religious hatred and hostility toward Israeli citizens.
The defendants reportedly refused to comply with lawful orders from law enforcement officers and engaged in violent acts and the destruction of property. Their actions caused damage to airport infrastructure valued at over 24 million rubles, disrupted transport and aviation security, and led to the suspension of airport operations, resulting in the delay, cancellation, or redirection of several regular flights. Additionally, illegal actions were committed against 30 law enforcement representatives, with 23 officers sustaining bodily injuries of varying severity.
The court found the defendants guilty under Part 1 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in mass riots) and Part 3 of Article 263.1 (violation of transport security requirements). The convicted individuals were sentenced to prison terms of up to 11 years and 6 months.
