The founder and editor of "Batumelebi" and "Netgazeti," Mzia Amaglobeli, and Belarusian journalist Andrzej Pochobut were awarded the Sakharov Prize, the European Union's highest human rights honor, at the European Parliament. The award was presented to their representatives, as both laureates are currently imprisoned.

In a speech read on her behalf, Amaglobeli described the award as a sign that the voice of Georgian citizens is being heard in Europe. She called on the international community to use all available mechanisms to fight for freedom and democracy in Georgia. European Parliament President Roberta Metsola hailed the winners as embodiments of courage and heroism.

Metsola emphasized that the European Parliament would never cease to defend the freedom of political prisoners and journalists. She reaffirmed that the Parliament stands firmly with all Georgians who see their future in the European Union, promising continued support through resolutions and direct advocacy to bring Georgia closer to European standards.
