Georgian Official Accuses Former German Ambassador of Inappropriate Orders to Georgian Officials
On June 19, Tea Tsulukiani, Head of the Parliamentary Commission “Investigating Crimes Committed by the Saakashvili Regime and the Subsequent Period,” accused former German Ambassador Hubert Knirsch of issuing inappropriate instructions to her and other senior Georgian officials during his tenure.
During the commission’s meeting, Tsulukiani stated that Knirsch’s conduct deviated significantly from diplomatic norms and recalled personal encounters where he issued direct orders to government representatives. She claimed, "The former German ambassador, Mr. Hubert Knirsch, gave me instructions that I, as Minister of Culture, did not follow."
Tsulukiani noted that these interactions involved challenging and directive conversations, with Knirsch allegedly instructing high-ranking officials by saying, “You must do this now.” She further emphasized having witnessed him give similar instructions to other government officials.
Questioning why the possibility of Knirsch issuing provocative or improper orders to other officials, such as former Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia, should be dismissed, Tsulukiani referenced the 2019 checkpoint operation in South Ossetia and suggested that it would be reasonable to examine Knirsch’s role in those circumstances. "Perhaps it is worth recalling what this diplomat was doing there, where the interior minister was making operational decisions about dispersing the protest," Tsulukiani stated.
