Georgian Security Forces Uncover Potential ISIS Network, Arrest Two Suspects

On July 26, the State Security Service of Georgia (SSG) declared that it had detained two Georgians on suspicion of aiding the Islamic State terrorist group.
According to the Security Service, the counterterrorism operation was carried out simultaneously at four locations across two Georgian districts. Officials allegedly recovered electronic data carriers during these raids and flags with "Islamic State" emblems on them. The Security Service said that items connected to explosives, ammunition, and other items were taken from the prisoners' houses.
To determine the extent of the detainees' involvement with the terrorist organization and to identify any other people connected to the crime, the Counterterrorism Center is looking into the case under Articles 327 (membership and/or participation in a terrorist organization) and 236 (illegal possession of arms and explosives) of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
