Georgians to Vote Electronically in Next Elections

On February 6, the Central Election Commission (CEC) met to discuss the employment of electronics and sophisticated digitalization in the voting process.
According to the report, 90% of Georgian voters would cast ballots electronically in the parliamentary elections of 2024. The Commission has chosen the polling locations where the process will be carried out electronically. The Precinct Election Commission (PEC) will count the votes by the CEC decree while converting the paper ballots into an electronic format using the required equipment in the polling places where the electronic form will not be employed. Notably, the polling places will upload the electronic ballots to the Internet and make them accessible to anybody interested.
According to the CEC, cases prescribed by law are not included in the selection criteria for the precincts that are planned to be converted to electronic format. All polling places in self-governing towns and the areas around the administrative hubs of the municipalities in self-governing communities will employ the electronic format. Similarly, elections will be conducted electronically in polling places within the aforementioned municipalities (aside from municipal administrative centers) where there are more than 300 registered voters and a 20-kilometer distance between the PEC and the District Election Commission (DEC).
