Irakli Kobakhidze Dismisses President Zourabichvili's Political Ambitions

On February 6, Prime Minister-designate Irakli Kobakhidze offered his assessment of the annual report delivered by President Salome Zourabichvili, characterizing it as an ordinary speech typical of a representative of the radical opposition.
Kobakhidze highlighted what he perceived as the most significant aspect of Zourabichvili's speech: her confirmation of plans to create a pseudo-middle political force, for which she intends to resign in September and participate in the elections. He considered this revelation the only noteworthy aspect of her address, dismissing the rest as routine rhetoric from a member of the radical opposition.
Regarding Zourabichvili's announcement about creating the "Unity Platform for Europe," Kobakhidze interpreted it as the initiation of another radical opposition party. He suggested that this endeavor reflects Zourabichvili's political ambitions but expressed skepticism about the party's potential to overcome the 5% electoral threshold required for representation in Parliament.
Kobakhidze indicated that the government does not view Zourabichvili's political initiatives with interest, emphasizing that their focus lies elsewhere. He implied that Zourabichvili's aspirations to establish a new political platform may face significant challenges in gaining widespread support.
