Iran and Azerbaijan Begin Diplomatic Talks Following Weeks of Accusations

According to independent Azerbaijani news agency Turan, Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan Seyed Abbas Mousavi was called to Tehran to present a report to Iran’s Foreign Minister Hussein Abdollahian on the current state of bilateral relations between Tehran and Baku, and future agenda. The Iranian Foreign Minister remarked on the good relations Tehran has with all its neighbors. “He provided Mousavi with necessary guidelines for the development and strengthening of relations between the two countries in the political, economic and cultural spheres, and for the successful convening of a bilateral economic commission in the near future,” the statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry said. It should be noted that prior to this, Musavi had a meeting with Hikmet Hajiyev, the assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, followed by a telephone conversation between the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Iran. This warming of relations comes after weeks of mutual accusations at the state media level of the two countries.
