Iran Backs Armenia's Sovereignty, Pledges New Bilateral Agreements

Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, affirmed Iran’s strong support for Armenia’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, expressing readiness to assist Armenia in its pursuit of peaceful relations with neighboring countries. Speaking at the Armenia-Iran: Cooperation and New Prospects conference in Armenia’s Kapan, Sobhani praised Armenia’s Crossroads of Peace initiative, emphasizing that any regional unblocking should respect the sovereignty and control of the involved nations.
Ambassador Sobhani welcomed ongoing peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, noting that tensions and conflicts can have harmful consequences for the region’s people. He described the Armenia-Iran border as a “border of friendship” and outlined: “We are determined to utilize all opportunities of the two countries to promote trade and increase the political, economic and cultural ties in the Iran-Armenia relationship, which has a bright future, and no one can disrupt it."
Mehdi Sobhani announced Iran’s intention to deepen its partnership with Armenia by signing new agreements across various sectors. Speaking at the Armenia-Iran: Cooperation and New Prospects seminar, Sobhani emphasized that these upcoming agreements would build upon the foundation of over 190 existing treaties, memoranda, and protocols between the two nations, covering a broad spectrum of bilateral relations.
"The Iranian government will seek to sign new documents with Armenia to promote cooperation in various sectors while also honoring previously established agreements," he stated, underlining the value both countries place on their longstanding cooperative relationship.
