Iran Offers Observer Deployment to Armenia-Azerbaijan Border

At a meeting with Armen Grigoryan, the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, on October 4, Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic, said that Iran is ready to contribute to reducing tensions in the Caucasus region.
Pointing out that recent events in the South Caucasus affect the security of the entire region, the Iranian military official noted that continued tensions are not in the interests of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and other regional countries.
General Bagheri further expressed Iran's readiness to send observers to the borders of Armenia and Azerbaijan. At the same time, he emphasized that there should not be any aggressive goals or intentions behind improving the defense capability of any country.
"Peace and tranquility in the region are in the interests of all countries, and security in the region must be ensured by the countries of the region, and the presence of extra-regional forces is contrary to peace in the region," Bagheri said.
